Welcome, fellow audio aficionados! Today, we embark on a sonic journey as we delve into the world of the Soundcore Space Q45 headphones. With a promise of style, superior sound, and mid-tier affordability, these headphones have piqued our interest. Join us as we unbox, explore, and experience the symphony that is the Q45.
Unboxing the Future of Sound
Our journey begins with the unboxing ritual. Opening the box unveils a sleek white case – and not a flimsy cinch bag that most headphones come with lately. Unzipping the case showcases the pure white color of the Space Q45 headphones along with a USB C cable and a 3.5mm auxiliary cable—every detail is meticulously placed, building anticipation for what’s to come.
Design Elegance and Build Quality
The Q45s don a design reminiscent of Soundcore’s signature style, sleek and modern with a generational-spanning allure. The headphones, made from mostly plastic, feel well-built despite the lack of aluminum or other metals higher-end headphones feature. The earpads far exceed the depth of the Soundcore Space One headphones – the Q45’s sister. However, despite the added padding (which definitely increases comfort), the plastic ear cups feature a lower-profile build than the Space Ones, offering a less bulky appearance while worn. The headband marks another departure from the Space One headphones. Where the Space Ones feature padding surrounding the entire headband, the Space Q45s have padding only on the bottom of the headband (as all headphones should). What’s the point of padding the top of the headband anyway?
The battery levels surpass most wireless headphones on the market today. You get 50 hours of uninterrupted use with noise cancellation on, and a whopping 65 hours if you turn ANC off. Oh, and if you’re desperate to extend your battery life as the headphone’s power depletes, simply plug them into a USB C charger for 5 minutes and you’ll get a shocking 4 additional hours of use.
Features Redefined
Thanks to Soundcore’s typical focus on features, the Q45s come with a slew of desirable bonuses. These headphones feature Bluetooth 5.3 for lightning-fast connectivity and add the capability of multipoint connections. I tried the multi-device feature and confirmed the Q45s connected to my iPhone 14 and my Roku sound bar smoothly. Oh, and the Q45s come with LDAC codec support for you audiophiles out there (sorry Apple users, no LDAC for you!). In addition to these features, Q45s bring a plethora of options to the table via the Soundcore app. Dive into the functionalities that make these headphones more than just an audio accessory but a tech innovation, whether on iOS or Android.
Comfort & Fit Revolution
Comfort is king, and the Q45s wear the crown well. Experience a snug fit, a lower profile on your ears, and a lightweight embrace that defies expectations. How do they fare during prolonged use? You’ll forget that you even have them on. I didn’t experience any ear fatigue, overheating, or aches. Where the Space One headphones fit loosely and fall off easily, the Q45 headphones found that perfect balance of a snug fit without creating too much pressure. The over-ear design surrounded my ears perfectly creating a nice sound-leak-free listening experience.
Sound Quality Unleashed
Ah, the heart of the matter—the sound. The Q45 headphones exceed the Space Ones when it comes to sound quality (albeit only slightly). For the ultimate listening experience, download the Soundcore app and tweak the EQ settings to your personal favorite sound profile. After trying each preset option, I settled on the Soundcore Signature profile with BassUp enabled.
The Space Q45s outshine the Space One headphones when it comes to active noise cancellation. Spoiler alert: the Q45s compete with the audio elite, too. Maybe it has something to do with the thicker earpads or the number and quality of the external mics, but you’ll be left in silent awe once you activate the ANC. You should take it a step further – run the option to set up a personal sound profile which optimizes the sound and ANC to your ears.
Controls at Your Fingertips
Navigate the easiest controls ever configured into a pair of headphones seamlessly with simple button presses. On the left earcup, there’s an ‘NC’ button that toggles through the ANC modes (ANC on, transparency mode, and ANC off). Below the ‘NC’ button lies the power button. A short 2-3 second press of the power button turns the headphones on and off and a longer 5-6 second press activates Bluetooth pairing mode.
On the right earcup, there’s a volume toggle button for turning the volume up or down. Below the volume toggle is the play/pause button.
While somewhat customizable through the Soundcore app, the only button you can modify is the ‘NC’. I opted to uncheck the noise cancellation off mode, so now when I press the ‘NC’ button on my Q45s, it switches between ANC on and transparency mode.
Verdict: A Sonic Symphony of Style and Sound
In the end, it all boils down to the question: Are the Soundcore Q45s worth the investment of $149.99? Weighing the pros and cons, I lean towards yes. My final verdict of these headphones is a solid 4 out of 5 rating. They may lack some bells and whistles like wear detection, but they shine where it truly matters—sound and comfort.
